the book was better lol

okay so I was actually really hype (jesus christ "hype") for this movie when i heard it was at sundance. I'd read the book before and really loved it and i knew the movie would have potential. I got even more excited after hearing all the good reviews that January. I guess i was naive when i thought this movie would go under the radar, even though it was going to have practically a years worth of "hype" before it actually came out. I was defiantly hoping for a "Moonlight" type situation, where it just comes out of nowhere and no one sees it until it starts winning shit. But you can't always get what you want.
So "Call Me By Your Name" was good/fine/decent, but i didn't love it like I should have. It didn't make me cry and it didn't stick with me afterwards, and Im not heartless or anything because i cry at the shittiest little things. The book on the other hand for sure got me, that last page had me fucked up. And I get that they couldn't have stuck to the book ending because it probably would have been even worse - not that the ending was bad it just lacked the heartbreak. I felt like there was still some hope for the future with the films ending, where as the book just leaves you there like "holy shit love is dead". I will say Timothee gets major points for having to sit there and cry in front of the camera for like 5 minutes, but other than that I didn't think his performance was all that (more on that later, lol these bitches). I also love how they were trying to make a " hot...?" film and they chose sufjan stevens of all people to write some songs for it. I'm not a sufjan girl, and probably never will be, but he seems like the farthest thing from hot. And some of those lyrics were so on the nose, I felt like i could've written them. I will say the poster was some good looking shit, so more points for that @ whoever designed it.

I'm glad I saw it, because it was a good movie, Im just saying it had some flaws for me. Mainly the fans... where to begin with the fans. @ all the girls who have hard-on's for Timothee and Armie, I get it they're handsome or whatever, but just because you're in love with them doesn't mean they deserve all the awards. I feel like you have to have seen all the nominees performances to be allowed to complain. I'm not saying I want Gary Oldman to win everything, but I definitely liked his performance over Timothee's. I will say all the actors made me realize how annoying all the characters are in the book, so good job to them. And i hate how "Call Me by Your Name" is just the greatest, most moving movie of all time for the fans. Seriously. If I wanted to watch white guys - who deserved oscars - share some mad sexual tension with each other I'd just watch "Brokeback Mountain". Or maybe dont watch brokeback because that movie made me hold "gay white guy" movies to a way higher standard.
In the end it was a good movie. You'll probably enjoy it 10 times more than I did, but it's still worth the 12 dollars to go see it in the theater. Or just read the book.
"Call Me by Your Name" gets 3.5/5 OK's
